“Art was a last desperate attempt for me to be able to exist in the world after trying very hard not to exist in the world.” ~ Author Unknown

I never considered myself a painter either. Not until I picked up a paintbrush, did I realize that we are all painters. We are masters at our own art. Painting our realities day in and day out. So, I decided to actually put paint to paper and canvas to see it come to life.

I tend to gravitate toward a technique where I wash color over paper and let the paint do the talking. It is a process in which I get to be a co-creator of my work. I give up a bit of control to the materials I am using. I appreciate this way of doing my work because it brings so much more meaning to it. I like to see what my mind comes up with, using the materials as my guide. I then bring it out with charcoal, pen or pencil.

The process of painting is art therapy in and of itself, but the end piece usually speaks to me over time in different ways, and I allow that to happen on its own without forcing meaning into a piece. Art lives and breathes. It speaks in such a way to satisfy immediate needs, but also develops more meaning over time as we evolve and grow.
